On 2 June 2010, the Ambassador of the European Union, Mr. Per Eklund visited Ozurgeti. Mr. Ambassador visited non-governmental organizations operating in Guria, which implement the projects funded by the European Union.
Since 2009, in partnership with regional partners and with the financial support of the EU, the Civil Society Institute implements the project - ,,Supporting Participative Development of Local Authorities in Regions of Georgia". Main objective of the project is to raise the effectiveness and transparency of self-government through enhancing the cooperation between the population and self-government units (increase of participation). Within the project framework, 151 leaders have been selected and trained in 4 regions of Georgia, including 37 from the Guria Region.
Mr. Ambassador has met the leaders selected within the project framework and awarded them the training certificates personally.
President's Trustee in the Guria Region, local non-governmental organizations and the regional mass media representatives also attended the certificate award ceremony.
